The Hockenheimring was built in 1932. The track was 12 km long and had a triangular shape. Mercedes-Benz used the circuit as a test track at the time. The track was split in two by the construction of the Bundesautobahn 6. It has been shortened to 6.789 km. The circuit was last renovated in 2002. This has been done to give F1 cars more chances to overtake and reduce speed. The new track is 4,574 km long and the circuit has a capacity of 120,000 visitors. The last renovation cost 62 million euros.
